Sections of vacant Gloucestershire hospital sold

Two sections of a former hospital in the Forest of Dean have been sold, subject to contract, health bosses have said.

Lydney and District Hospital and Dilke Memorial Hospital have been vacant since the opening of the 24-bed Forest of Dean Community Hospital in May.

Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust said they had found a buyer for two sections belonging to the Lydney site – Grove House and the garden of Stonebury House.

It said all proceeds would be invested back into local healthcare services.

Expressions of interest have been received for the main Lydney hospital building and land on the corner of Templeway West – both of which have been designated as assets of community value.

The trust said final bids would be invited and assessed near the end of July.

Dilke Memorial Hospital is currently being marketed for sale.

The trust said: “The decision to close both Lydney and Dilke hospitals and replace them with a brand new, purpose built community hospital in Cinderford was made several years ago following an extensive period of consultation and engagement.

“As with all property sales, we follow strict national guidance which means we must achieve both social value and financial value, with any proceeds being invested directly back into local healthcare services.”
