Reception students in Guernsey are receiving outdoor lessons on the island’s birds.

The States of Guernsey said the special lessons were being delivered as part of a partnership with nature organisation La Societe Guernesiaise.

It said at a previous lesson at Vauvert children learnt about the robin, the blue tit, seagulls and puffins.

Kim Hutchison, head of primary leadership and development, said the lessons were part of a cultural enrichment programme.

She said: “As per the education strategy, we want to ensure our education system gives students the knowledge and skills to succeed, and while much of that comes from inside the classroom, a lot of lessons are learned outside as well.

“It is hugely important that our pupils learn about nature as well as everything else.”
