Her assignment? G.W. Carver Elementary in Richmond, Virginia. Her mission? Leave no student behind.
Her classroom became a sanctuary for learners—especially those others had written off. She poured extra hours into lesson plans, spent Saturdays tutoring students with learning disabilities, and lived by the mantra: “After the battle, the reward comes.” Her dedication paid off. In 2009, she received Richmond City Public Schools’ Gold Award for reading. The following year, she led her students to win the Platinum Voyager Reading Award—the highest distinction in the district. Church attendance, community outreach, and giving back to underserved populations in Jamaica are woven into the fabric of her life.
