Guernsey volunteers urged to register for Liberation Day

People are being urged to register their interest in volunteering at the 80th Guernsey Liberation Day celebrations.

From having a few hours to spare or taking on a leadership role, support from the community will make a real difference, say organisers.

Volunteers are needed to support the commemorative and celebratory events in St Peter Port and along the cavalcade route, at parish events over the weekend or to help with deliveries during Liberation week.

Liberation Day marks the moment the island was freed from occupation in World War Two.

“We are hoping to build on the wonderful support the community gave the 2023 Island Games when we had an incredible response to help us deliver that fantastic week of sport,” said Wayne Bulpitt, chair of the Association of Guernsey Charities.

Voluntary roles will require different levels of physical fitness, and volunteers will be able to indicate their preference for positions when registering.

The Liberation Day Volunteer Team will be in touch with those who are interested in the new year, with further details about available roles and timeslots.

To register your interest, visit the Liberation Day page and click on Get Involved.
